All else being how they currently are now, consider two scenarios:

1) If we lived in a world where animals (vertebrates) were 3 times their normal size. This would mean pet cats would be the size of a small lion, rats the size of cats, great white sharks the size of 18-wheeler trucks, eagles standing close to 5 feet high, etc.

2) If we lived in a world where insects (and other invertebrates) were 5 times their normal size. This would mean seeing 2" ants, foot long scorpions, wasps reaching 6", and some giant spiders.

  1. I think insects might pose a larger problem. There are hundreds of insects around the world. they would easily out number animals. Giant insects would need more food. Mosquitoes would suck people dry. Other bugs like weevils would destroy hundreds of crops.

  2. If we lived in a world where insects were 5x larger then it would effect the food chain drastically, in addition if animals were larger that would also alter the food chain.  Size is a factor in survival in all aspects of life.
