They are both pretty comparable.  For price and ingredients are I would go with Eagle Pack Holistic, however with these two being close in comparison you could try both and see which your dog prefers.  I would stay away from regular Eagle Pack without a doubt.

  2. I like Blue Buffalo's Blue Wilderness more, personally.  Higher protein/lower carbohydrate levels, which is pretty importance for my competitive dogs.

As far as better brands, I'm a huge fan of Orijen, but it can be a pain to get.  It's amazing nutrition (honestly, read the label) and my dog who's allergic to everything can stomach their allergy formula.

  3. Canidae is cheap and great stuff.  http://www.canidae.com  or Wellness is great too.  Eagle Pack Holistic is great and so is Blue Buffalo.  Innova, Merrick, Solid Gold and Orijen are all great too.  Yeah, everyone's a comedian on here tonite...huh.

  4. eagle pack

  5. Blue Buffalo and Eagle Pack are both great foods. Though overall Blue Wilderness is better. There is more meat content and is just about grain free! It is not essential that dogs have grains. They are carnivores!

Here is the ingredients for "Eagle Pack Super Premium Kennel Original Adult":

Pork Meal, Ground Yellow Corn, Rice Flour, Chicken Meal, Corn Germ Meal (Dry Milled), Chicken Fat (preserved with Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Citric Acid and Rosemary Extract), Dried Beet Pulp, Fish Meal, Brewers Dried Yeast, Dried Egg Product, Flaxseed, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Vitamin-mineral fortified and the "Custom Supplements-Wellness for Life" Nutrition Program.

Now lets take a look at the ingredients for "Eagle Pack Holistic Select Lamb Meal & Rice Formula":

    Ingredients:

Lamb Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Ground White Rice, Chicken Fat (Preserved With Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Oatmeal, Dried Beet Pulp, Flaxseed, Dried Egg Product, Carrots, Sun-Cured Alfalfa, Peas, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Quinoa (Organic), Apples, Blueberries, Inulin, Taurine, Beta-Carotene, Cranberries, Dehydrated Kelp, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, DL-Methionine, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, d-Pantothenic Acid, Niacin Supplement, Choline Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Biotin, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Inositol, Polysaccharide Complexes of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt, Potassium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Lactobacillus acidophilus Lactobacillus casei, Enterococcus faecium, B. subtillus, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus coagulins, Aspergillus oryzae, and Aspergillus niger.

As you can see, Eagle Pack Super premium formulas contain corn, more fillers and low quality grains. Eagle Pack Holistic formulas however, contain NO corn and high quality grains. There is a few fillers though. I would also prefer to see more meat content in place of some of the grains (the same with Super Premium).

Ok now I will compare Eagle Pack Holistic Select and Blue Buffalo Blue Wilderness.

Ingredients for "Eagle Pack Holistic Select Duck Meal And Oatmeal Formula:

Duck Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Ground White Rice, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat (Preserved With Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Dried Beet Pulp, Dried Egg Product, Flaxseed, Tomato Pomace, Carrots, Peas, Sun-Cured Alfalfa, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Quinoa (Organic), Inulin, Apples, Blueberries, Cranberries, Beta-Carotene, Dehydrated Kelp, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, DL-Methionine, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, d-Pantothenic Acid, Niacin Supplement, Choline Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Biotin, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Inositol, Polysaccharide Complexes of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt, Potassium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Lactobacillus acidophilus Lactobacillus casei, Enterococcus faecium, B. subtillus, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus coagulins, Aspergillus oryzae, and Aspergillus niger.

    My review:

There is one meat protein (duck meal). I would prefer to see more meat instead of some of the grain content. Dogs evolved from wolves and therefore are carnviores (meat eaters) meaning they would not eat grains.

The next three ingredients are grains (ground brown rice, ground white rice and oatmeal) which is of good quality.

I would prefer to see whole eggs instead of egg product.

Overall the product is of very good. It provides a variety of vegetables/fruits and most ingredients are of good quality.

Now lets take a look at "

Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Potato Starch, Turkey Meal, Fish Meal, Tomato Pomace (natural source of Lycopene), Chicken Fat (preserved with Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Natural Chicken Flavor, Oatmeal, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Blueberries, Cranberries, Flaxseed (natural source of Omega 6 Fatty Acids), Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Alfalfa Meal, Kelp Meal, Taurine, L-Carnitine, L-Lysine, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Yucca Shidigera Extract, Green Tea Extract, Turmeric, Herring Oil (natural source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids), Fructooligosaccharides, Monooligosaccharides, Dried Chicory Root, Black Malted Barley, Oil of Rosemary, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin C, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Beta Carotene, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin (Vitamin B3), Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Folic Acid, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Zinc Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Zinc), Iron Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Iron), Copper Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Copper), Manganese Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Manganese), Potassium Amin

There is 4 meat products overall. We can be sure that this product contains a very good amount of meat. Though I may point out that the company has not listed what fish they used and is quite impossible to determine where is may have came from.

There is only one grain (oatmeal) which is of good quality.

Overall this food contains a good amount of meat, a range of herbs, fruits and vegetables. I definetly recommend this product. However, it quite high in protein (42%) which may not be sutiable for some dogs especially puppies.

Here is a list of other good dog foods:

    Innova

    Evo

    Canidae

    Merrick

California Natural (great for dogs with allergies!)

I wasn`t too sure if you wanted too know if Blue Buffalo Blue Wilderness is good or Blue Buffalo`s original formula was good?? Well if you were talking about there original formuals. It would be probably of the same quality as Eagle Pack Holistic Select.

Both "Blue Buffalo Chicken & Brown Rice" and Blue Buffalo Lamb & Brown Rice" is good. It really depends which flavour your dog likes or if your dog is allergic to chicken or lamb. If you want every few months or so switch different flavours to make it more interesting (example: feed "Blue Buffalo Chicken & Brown Rice" for a month or however long and then switch to Blue Buffalo Lamb & Brown Rice"). Please switch gradully, if you do this.

Good luck! I hope this helps.

  6. Eagle Pack Holistic and Blue Buffalo are high quality, probably about equal in my view, depending on the specific kind within the brand.  The Eagle Pack Premium and regular Eagle Pack are not foods I would give to my dogs, as they have high grain content and lots of fillers.   The Blue Wilderness probably outclasses the Eagle Pack Holistic line, which, as far as I know, does not have a grain-free option.

In my opinion, either Eagle Pack Holistic or Blue Buffalo would be good choices for most dogs.  If you are willing to spend a little more, I do like Innova Evo and Orijen better than both those brands, though.

  7. blue buffalo deffinently. My springer gets adult. Lamb and rice even though hes a senior he quit eating that so we give him supplanemts amd my rottie eats blue wilderness and  he has so much energy now so im going to switch him back to the regular large breed adult but blue buffalo is one of the best on the market. My husbands. Luitenent feeds his dogs halo and he gave us some tooday to see if our dogs will like that and its still a hollistic food and its aupposed to be really good but we will see. But go with blue because my personal experience with it has been great!

    Good luck
