  1. Sicne I play both rock and metal drumming.  I've ONLY used  Remo clear "Pinstripe" and "Emperor" drum heads for the last 20 years. They both are 2 ply...but Emperors have much darker tone than the Pinstripes do. Pinstripes are more popular because they are much brighter and "boomy" tone to their respsonse. They go for $12 each and are well worth it. They can handle the abuse that metal & punk drummers dish out.  Hope this helps....

Here is where you can buy them too.

    www.guitarcenter.com

    www.music123.com

    www.midwestpercussion.com

    www.westcoastdrumcenter.com

    Good luck

  2. Did you consider going to the Remo website and searching for their names? They list the setups for most recording drummers that use their product.

For metal, you would probably do better with Remo Pinstripes or Black Dots on the batter side, and clear Ambassadors on the bottoms.

I don't know the equivalent models from Aquarian, but their stuff is good too.
