Am trying to intro a meat based, grain free dry cat food for my cat, I am considering the following options:

1. Natural Balance Original Ultra™ Ultra-Premium Dry Cat Food

2. Serengeti Herbal Felid Diet

3. EVO Cat and Kitten Food

  1. evo

  2. I wonder if you have valid reasons to feed your cat dry. If it's because of convenient, I would suggest that you try to place your cats health over your own needs. If it's because of price, please understand that what your cat eat will determine their quality of life and in the long run, save your many expensive trips to the vet. If it's because all cats eat dry food after kittenhood, take a moment to visit this website:-

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but I am just suggesting that you try to rethink your decision after doing your own research into why cat needs wet food and why dry food is detrimental to their health.

If after careful consideration, you still think that you have to feed your cat dry food, then go for the best and highest quality product in the market:-

EVO (this would be the first choice in your list above)

    WELLNESS CORE

    ORIJEN

Timberwolf Serengeti Feline Diet (Also on your list)

    Felidae Cat and Kitten

You already have some answers on how to wean the cats off wet and onto dry. My suggestion would be, feed a combo of wet and dry. Please do not deprive your cats of a wet diet. You can do 50/50 or better yet 80(wet)/20(dry).

P/S : Personally, I hate to give this advice but I do understand that it is difficult to convince people to change their mind. All I can say is that you make the choices for your cat, and as a result, you are the sole person responsible should his diet resulted in health complications along the way.

I love to say this whenever someone ask this question.

Look at your cats. They are majestic animals, with their wild ancestors blood still running through their veins. They are predators, equip with sharp canine teeth to shred through meat. Now, imagine a lion or a tiger, feasting on a bowl of dry kibble. Does that sound right to you? Well, now you know why it is so ridiculous to feed your cat dry kibbles!

Domestication only changes the way the cats live but not the way the cats eat. If we cannot guarantee their wellbeing, we have no right to invite them into our home.

  3. Out of your list, I have heard good things about Evo.  Another food to look into is Taste of the Wild.  It's grain-free and has an excellent list of ingredients.

  4. EVO, but I found that not all of my cats would eat it.  They all enjoy Wellness Core - it's a grain free, dry food.

  5. EVO would be the highest quality out of those, so I'd recommend that one. I'd also recommend feeding wet instead of dry. The reason is, in the wild, cats normally get most of their water content directly from their prey items and drink very little. Domestic cats are no different, and because of the fact that they are designed to take in water with their meal, they have a very low thirst drive. Cats often just don't drink enough. This leads to urinary tract infections and crystals. The bit about dry food being better for teeth is a myth and has not been proven in the least. Canned/wet food is better because it more closely mimics the cat's natural diet. More on why canned food is best:
