I have been shopping around for a dslr. My budget is $1000. I have found 3 that I like so far. 1.Nikon D80. 2. Canon Rebel XTi 3.Sony alpha A300x. I am an avid hobbyist so I take pictures of any and everything. Has anyone used any of the above mentioned cameras? Pros and cons for each? I have read many articles on them but I would like to hear from people who have used them often.

  1. Nikon D80 is a couple of years old now, doesn't make it a bad camera, but it means there are better, Canon is let down with poor supplied lens.  Sony is alright as well.

Ever thought of a pentax or samsung?

  2. Of those you have listed,  I currently have the Canon Rebel XTi.   It has nice features and is pretty user friendly and takes very good pictures.   I  don't have a complaint about the camera at all.   I also have and shoot with Nikon equipment so I have nothing negative to say about these products either.  Both are good, sturdily built and reliable.    What I can say is that between Nikon and Canon,  customer support for Canon seems to be better and I find that it is easier to get tech support by phone whenever I have had to call.  Not so with Nikon.  They don't want to discuss your problem...  just "you will have to send the camera in" for the slightest problem.... will not even try to trouble shoot for you.  That has gotten frustrating at times.   I don't have experience with Sony DSLR products but as I work in a camera repair facility we find that Sony is not quick about sending parts to our repair tech... sometimes they have to wait a couple of weeks or more for the parts to come in... meaning the customers have to be without their cameras longer than they should have to.  But if you are looking for a good DSLR....  Stick with the Canon or Nikon.
