  1. Montessori does not include fantasy during the years of 0-6. This means that there is no dramatic play areas set up. We have creative arts in other outlets though--through reading, art projects, writing, and other things. We do not include dramatic play because we believe this age group is not fully aware of fantasy and reality. They cannot distinguish it yet (which is why they think things like Spiderman and Dora are actually real). As they progress towards 5 and 6 years old, the Montessori program changes and incorporates much more imaginative things because they are now old enough to understand the difference.


  2. Generally, Montessori programs do not value fantasy or creativity. On the other end of the spectrum Reggio Emilia places the most emphasis on creativity.
