  1. psychiatrist... they are real doctors, as in they go to school for much longer then psychologists, and are phDs. they make much more money because they have much more schooling


  2. The only real difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is that a psychiatrist has the authority to prescribe medication.  So yes, they often go to school longer, but a psychologist can get their PhD just as easily.  (You can get a PhD in any field, even music.)

    As far as pay difference, it all depends on where you go.  In places where counselors are in high demand, a psychologist can make just as much as a psychiatrist.

A psychiatrist has an MD not a Phd.  A psychologist has a Phd.  Typically a psychiatrist will make much more money than a psychologist, but it depends on many factors.  A psychologist can be a professor at a University, write books, etc.  A psychiatrist goes to school for about 14 years, and a psychologist only goes for 8 to 10 years.  I'm sure you've heard of Dr.  Phil.  He makes a lot of money I'm sure, and he's a psychologist not a psychiatrist.
