I would appreciate any advice as I have never played an instrument before! Is this a good make? Are there certain things to look out for? Unfortunately I cannot afford much else right now! Of course i understand you get what you pay for but would one of these two be ok just to get started? Thanks :)

  1. What you need is a guitar that you will enjoy playing.  If you don't like it, you simply won't practice as much as you normally would.  Get one that has good user reviews, however, be aware of the beginner packs.  I threw everything away in mine (because of defects) except for the tuner (which is touchy), amp (not very good anyway) and the bass (can't toss it!).

  2. The Fender Squier is a good guitar , whether for beginner or more experienced, but I would recommend going to your local music shop and trying one out. If you have a friend who plays, take him/her with you to give you an idea of what it sounds and plays like. I assume you live in UK. If you're anywhere within reach of Dorchester in Dorset, visit Harmony Music. They have a website where you could see stock and prices. It's where I go for my equipment and instruments.

If I can help further, go to my profile and email me

  3. The second ad (£60 one) doesn't say what model of guitar it is, but you're safe with a Fender, whatever type.

My first elec guitar was a Fender Bullet - you don't see many of those about, but it was a great guitar & helped me take my first steps to being the metal god that I am now (so I've been told... oh, alright,  I made it up:-) ).

Generally, the more expensive a guitar is, the better it is; although that's not always the case. Up to about £2000, it's mostly true. Try and get yourself an ESP one day - awesome!!

But for now, either of those two would probably be ok. Look out for worn or damaged frets, naff strings (you can replace these, tho), check that all the pickups work on all the switch settings, and that the jackplug socket isn't stuffed. Those are the common things to look out for with a secondhand axe.

Finally, good choice of instrument! Enjoy a new world of creativity etc. as u learn more stuff on it!

  4. for that sort of money you cant go wrong................ring em up and ask how old they are and whether they have been played much.most important thing is that the neck is straight and the electrics work.....................

google............guitar buying tips..............what to look for when buying an electric guitar ..before u go and view....................................... are loads  of tuition videos on youtube to get u started...................rock on

  5. both are fender, i wager that both are squire type (even though the more expensive one doesn't say squire) you should call and confirm that fact,....

fender squires are the "beginner" line and are acceptable gear for beginners.

  6. Fender Squire is an OK beginner guitar. Its what I have!!!
