Here is the dress that I would like to duplicate. If you scroll down, it's the second picture down.

Which embroidery machine would you suggest to do similar kinds of dress designs?

  1. I would start with an inexpensive machine like a Singer or Brother...

then if you find you have a talent for it, move on to the more advanced ones like a Melco or Tajima or the smaller sized commercial style machines.

  2. Why do you need an embroidery machine to sew a dress?  You can find fabric that has detailing on it already if you know where to look.  Go to a shop that sells specialty fabrics.  They'll have it.

  3. From that picture it looks like the dress is made of satin, with a lace layer over the top - probably an embroidered tulle.  This stuff is readily available from bridal fabric shops.  It isn't cheap, but you can get lots of different qualities, so there may be something to suit.

If you buy 100% silk embroidered tulle in white or a natural colour, you can dye it whatever colour you like.  Be sure to use dyes made for silk, rather than standard Ritt or Dylon dyes, and follow instructions carefully.  If you want to do this, you may need to buy the lace not beaded and do the beading yourself afterwards.  That is best done by hand...
