Which eminent player is most likely to win the Masters?
The first major of the year is about to start, the most frequently asked question is: who will win the 2012 Master Tournament?
There are several leading contenders for the title. However, among the hundreds, two are the toughest contenders at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
On the top position we have none other than Tiger Woods. To give him tough challenging times, Phil Mickelson is also heading to the $8,000,000 purse event.
Firstly speaking about Woods, the 14-time major champion is delivering well since January, 2012. He tremendously improved his Official World Golf Rankings, from the fifties he reached to the seventh position.
The 36-year-old professional started the current season from AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. He finished tied for the 15th position there.
He tremendously secured the second position at the Honda Classic and displayed an amazing performance there. He scored 10-under 270 and competed well for the title.
Then he played two World Golf Championships staged event, the Accenture Match Play Championship and Cadillac Championship.
He tied for the 17th at Accenture, whereas he withdrew from the Cadillac in the third round, due to an injury on his left leg.
After the recovery, he played the unofficial event of the Tavistock Cup and finished tied for the fourth. Recording such an impressive performance, after sustaining an injury, can only be expected from Woods.
In March, he played the last PGA staged event at Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard. Undoubtedly, he was the proud winner of the event, making 13-under 275.
His enormous scoring at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge was the reason for such an amazing win. Now, he is spending most of his time at the Augusta and preparing for the first Masters by practising.
Woods’ position at the Masters is strengthening. However, the first major tournament is not that easy to win. Mickelson is right behind him and is the second most favourite, to win the title.
The 41-year-old professional has also delivered his best since February. Despite finishing unimpressively at the Humana Challenge and missing the cut at Farmers Insurance Open, he is still the hottest for the Masters.
He won the title of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, by scoring the highest figures of 17-under 269. This was his best so far and earned $1,152,000 there.
Then, he played the Northern Trust Open and was so close to the title again, but Bill Haas defeated him in the playoff mode.
He finished tied for the 43rd and 24th position at the Cadillac Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational, respectively.
In April, he played the Shell Houston Open and secured the fourth position at day-end. He scored 12-under 276, the second best scores of the current year.
Mickelson is a four-time major winner. Out of the four events, three victories were at the Masters in 2004, 2006 and 2010.
Hence, the competition between Woods and Mickelson is tough. Both have ample chances to be the proud winners of the Masters Tournament this year.
There are many other players who cannot be neglected, due to their impressive finishes in 2011 and 2012. There are players like Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Steve Stricker and Martin Kaymer.
The competition is tough and the Masters is gaining more attention for such an appealing field. From April 5 to 8, all the players will fight for the glory.
In my opinion, Woods will be the proud winner of the title. He is in his full form and is delivering his best in the current year. The only need is to continue the winning performance at Augusta.
