Question:

Which extra wedge should I buy? brand/loft/bounce?

I already have a pitching wedge and a loft wedge (60 deg) as well as a small chipper (putter like club w/ slight angle.)

I can't hit my loft wedge consistently long range I'm good with it over traps junk onto greens but can't go past 40-50 yards. I either:

1) Swing too hard and top it or goes dead right

2) Don't swing hard enough ball goes up looking perfect but falls dead short of the green. Usually the loft gets thrown as I have wasted yet another perfect 320 yard drive.

My regular pitching wedge is inconsistent as well under 100. I'm looking for a club that can go the 50-100 yards with a nice easy swing.

Also can someone please explain bounce to me.

  1. Why would you carry a chipper and hit the ball 320... I just seriously lost some respect right there..

Ok I would probably go with a 54* if I was you with a medium bounce, or about 8degrees.  The bounce has to do with the thickness of the bottom sole and the ability to dig into the ground.  The higher bounces are used for softer surfaces because the club will bounce off the soft grass instead of dig, whereas the low degree of bounce is used off tight lies.  I would recommend the mid bounce for an all around use..

As for the wedges here are some recommendations:

    Cleveland CG 12 or 14... 2dot bounce

    Taylormade TP 54

    Titleist Spin Milled Vokey 54*

Any of these three are very good wedges..

Good luck and get rid of that chipper.  If you drive that far, you are disgracing all that is length in golf...

  2. Where is your sand wedge(56*)? Take that chipper thing to the pawn shop.  I chip 98% of the time with my 56* wedge.  You need to get one of those.  According to the Golf Magazine Club Test '08, the best wedge out this year is the Cleveland CG14 Black Pearl.  This link will explain what bounce is.

  3. Get rid of the chipper, get a sand wedge, 54 or 56 degree with maybe 8 degree bounce.  Go to the range and work on your short game, and stop lying about hitting 320 yard drives.  Nobody with a chipper in their bag can hit it 320 off the tee.

  4. try getting a gap wedge- 52 degree - get a standard bounce - cleveland cg11 wedge- I got those for myself for x-mas and my handycap went from 8 to 6 , gust by getting those wedges( they put spin on the ball andthey are easy to control )

any way, the gap wedge is a perfect 100 yd. club and you can hit knock down shots with it on your 3rd shot on par 5's and its great  for chips to greens that run away from you -

also if you talk to the pro at you d**k's sporting goods store, they will most likley reccomend that same cg11 cleveland wedge.

good luck with your game and hopefully you'll go with the cg11

    you can't go wrong with a cg11

  5. I'd look at a 56 degree wedge.

Bounce...a wedge with no bounce (say 2 or 4 degrees) will work great on tight lies, while a wedge with more bounce (say 10 degrees) will be much better out of sand.  Look at the leading edge of the club and how close it is to the ground when you set the club.

Brand...I've heard good things about Cleveland's wedges, but will absolutely, positively swear by my Titleist Vokey.  I have a 60 degree that is my first club of choice anything around 30 yards and in.  That club has gotten me out of more jail than a good bail bondsman.

  6. two great answers . i am a snior have to carry five wdges . very strange club arrangement . wedges 3 different companys , plus at least 40 in basement . thank you

  7. loft wedges are not designed for long range.  U hit it 320?  U need to give me driving lessons!  A sand wedge should get u that in-between distance with an easy swing.
