Which families do you visit at Christmastime?

My partner and I are planning Christmas holidays, except we have to fly to visit his family and only drive from our place to visit mine. What would you do in a situation like this? I would love to see both families on Christmas day, but it's just not possible, and one side will get hurt that we decided to visit the other.

I would go visit your family on christmas eve, and depart from them in the wee hr's of the morning when the first present is open, then catch a plane to see - the next family... and enjoy the day with them lol

We were able since we married to use the children as an excuse for not travelling. Instead, we invite both sets of parents to us. Another alternative might be to alternate from Christmas to Christmas - ie one year visit his, the next yours?
