Is it the Haward? San Andreas? When would a quake likely happen? Would it happen within the next 10 years? How can I prepare for this?

  1. Look up earthquakes and study 'em. Know your enemy.

Look at China and see how long it took to get food shelter and water to the people there. That's how big your emergency kit needs to be.

Interesting thing about news reporting, particularly the TV news. It focuses on the thousands of people struggling to survive and the buildings that look like they were torn out of the ground. What you don't see, 'cause it sells no advertising, is the buildings to either side that have little or no damage and the millions of people going on about their normal lives.

Other thing to remember is that California has the best earthquake proofing building codes in the world.

  2. Yeah,,I was actually gonna say both of those faults.  I live in San Jose and every once in awhile they talk about the chances of another big one like we had in 1989.  Of course they cannot give an approximation as to when.  However what you can do is create an emergency kit for yourself.  here's a link to a list of items that are reccomended for it.  i used to have one myself.....need to make another one.
