  1. Years ago there were only three posh schools for girls  in Liverpool.  You either paid or if you were smart you got a scholarship.

The finest was La Sagesse Convent High School.  It had a pale blue and navy uniform, the hat was a velour and in the 'summer' a panama.  The uniform had to be bought from John Manners (cost three weeks pay for a winter coat).  Shoes had to be changed on entering school.  No nail polish, no color additives added to hair.  One girl had to wear a hat for a month till her hair washed and grew out the red color.  The head mistress was Bon Mere and all had to curtsy to her and Sister Ignatius.  The finer things in life were taught, poetry, dancing, art, French and mostly elocution.  It's star pupil was Rita Tushingham who played the daughter in Dr. Zhivago movie.

Alas, all that remains of the school is the large front gates on  Aigburth Road, Grassendale, states ' Holme Hey'. The school was pulled down and in its place is a housing estate.  But the names of the roads are Montfort, Lawrence. Albans all houses used in competition.  The school took in borders. The school had a stable, acres of gardens and a hockey field.  The pupils went to France every year..It was considered the poshes school in Liverpool.

Second poshest was Bellerive FCJ High School, now it looks like that one is now the poshest.
