  1. Scott's 4-step program works great. Use step three now.

  2. Most experts recommend a ratio 3-1-2 or 4-1-2 for lawn grass.  Nitrogen, N, is essential for promoting leaf and stem growth, Phosphorus, the second letter,  is for bloom and root development (not much need for blooms on lawn grass) and potash, the K,  is directly involved in photosynthesis, the process of converting sunlight to energy.  So you can see the need for more nitrogen and potash than phosphorus.  Any blend with near the above ratios, for example 15-5-10, will work better than a balanced blend.

  3. if you can get a bag of sulphate from your local hardware use that once for the initial boost for the lawn,,,,,only use ONCE a year ..and water in really well,,,

  4. You need to know your lawn, the kind of grass and soil. However Scott's make a great fertilizer.

  5. The third number of 16-16-16 is postassium, any fertilizer which high potassium is generally a winterizer.  You don't want that now.  You wan't something high in nitrogen, the first number.  Right now use Scotts turf builder and then at the end of September, early October use Scotts winterizer which will have higher postassium levels.  Spray any weeds along the way with Ortho Weed B Gone Max.

  6. Dynamic lifter is great.
