  1. He's right - if you don't know what it is, don't delete it.  Use Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software and let them delete viruses and spyware programs - aside from that, there are three outcomes of deleting a file you don't know about:

    1) You free up a very tiny amount of disc space, and don't notice it.

    2) You delete a file that makes something else work, and break a program you use often.

    3) You break the operating system, requiring you to reinstall it.  If this is Windows, it's a pain in the rear - and good luck getting help from Microsoft about it.


  2. Easy one. If you don't know what it is, don't delete it. Only exception: stuff in My Documents.
