I have a friend that claims she knows everything about cameras, but I don't trust her judgement.

  1. it depends on which lens you have on it.

you can't just get a filter for the d60's body.

which lens do you have? you needed to

mention that, each lens could use a different

    one, sorry, be more specific.

  2. HI She She.   Well,  actually,  you don't need filters for your camera.... you need them for the lens.    Unless you have taken many pictures and understand what filters can do,  You don't need to invest in a lot of them, right now.  Wait until you have a better understanding of just using your camera in different situations.   Now,  you should get one lens filter.   I recommend the Skylight Filter or the UV Filter.   Once you get it and put it on your lens,  you can just leave it.  The first reason for the UV is to filter out those UV rays before they

affect your pictures.  The second reason,  is to protect the front element glass on your lens from getting scratched or cracked.  The filter keeps the actual lens from attracting dust particles and you just have to wipe off the filter.   The Skylight filter works much the same way.   There are several filters available and each has a particular purpose... many of which allow special affects.   Try your local library and check out a general photography book - not necessarily digital photography...  there will be section devoted to filters which will give you a good description of each and how and when to use them.   Hope I could add to your already good answers.  :))  Happy shooting.

  3. First and foremost you need a UV filter to protect all your lenses.

Then you may want one Polarizer for your general zoom lens (18-55 mm, 24-70 mm or 24-85 mm).  Other than that you will not really need any other filters.  There may be a time when a ND (neutral density) filter for shooting slow shutter speeds in bright sun and maybe a some special effects filters, but that has to do with your later choices after you have been shooting for a few years.
