Which fin system should I install for my custom surfboard?

I am not sure which fin system i should use for my home made surfboard. I am building shortboard 6.2'. What kind of fin box should I install? it seems there are many options, different types of fin system... please..

  1. I prefer Futures. More stability and yes, they feel more like glassed on. I find they are easier to install. No special tools/router needed.

  3. All of the big name manufacturers make decent fins. The hydrodynamics that goes into fin design, and testing is fairly sophisticated. I have FCS fins on three boards, but my twin fish has a future system, because in a twinny, they are hydro-dynamically better suited. I didn't do the math or studies, the shaper, Will Allison did. If you don't plan on taking your stick on an extended air travel vacation, why not go with glassed in fins? They are often stronger, and can be set more accurately (again, that came from a shaper, not my own knowledge). If you can really tell  the difference on other boards, then it's worth worrying. But, If you are like most guys, just go for the lightest, with the smallest surface area (less drag).

  4. i like the future fins system over the fcs. a little heavier, but feels the most like glassed on fins.
