  1. I think put in some neon tetra's first, they are cheap and not meaning to sound mean to the fish, but they will be a good way of testing if the water is right yet. You will soon know if it isn't right.

They are a very cheap fish, and very small.

  2. i hate tetras, and guppies/mollies, they die so easily. Best fish to keep is cichlids, they are active tropical fish and very very hardy. One problem is that they are aggressive.

i got flowerhorn and a tank divider.

  3. hi i have 6 tanks and i put fish in straight away without to many hassles you can add some rock salt.

for fish depending what tropicals you want cichlida are pretty hardy but you can't put them in with any others.

other wise i like guppies or tetras or angle fish

  4. You need to cycle your tank first, unless you are planning to cycle with fish.

The nitrogen cycle takes 6-8 weeks to complete, and can be done either with hardy fish (danios, etc) or without fish (fishless cycle).

Basically the cycle starts with waste (fish poo, fish food, etc) which turns into ammonia. As the ammonia builds (very harmful, often fatal to your fish) in your tank, bacteria grows that converts ammonia to nitrites (very harmful, often fatal to your fish).

As the nitrites build, more bacteria grows that converts the deadly nitrites to nitrates.

Once your tank has no ammonia, no nitrites, and 20-40ppm nitrates, the cycle is complete, and you can add fish safely.

If you're planning to cycle with fish, you need a few hardy fish, and you'll need to monitor the water closely so that you can do emergency water changes when the levels get dangerous. Otherwise, you'll lose the fish, as they cannot handle the levels of ammonia and nitrites that happen during a cycle. Your fish's lives will be significantly shorter than normal if they go through the cycle and survive, so do not expect them to live real long.

In a fishless cycle, you can achieve the same results by feeding the tank with fish food every day as though fish were present. You won't need to monitor the water as much, and no emergency water changes will need to be done. It's much easier to do this than to cycle with fish.

You'll need to do a partial water change about every 1-2 weeks, and test it about that often as well. This way you can tell how far along you are in the cycle process. Once you have readings of Ammonia - 0, Nitrites - 0, Nitrates - 20-40ppm, you're ready for fish.

Only add a couple at a time to avoid a mini-cycle, and continue your partial water changes (10-20% of the water, every week or two), and your fish should be quite happy.

    Good luck.

  5. .....wait 2 weeks, then add 2 or 3 zebra danios or a similar number of white cloud minnows....or maybe platies

...the danios and white clouds can get along in most every tank community that you may choose

...depends whicjh way you plan to develope the general community aggression

....platies cannot live well with semi-agressives like dwarf cichlids or rams...but can find some happiness with tiger barbs (perhaps)

....ok, let me just say that the only chemical you need is "Prime" dechlorinator....i perfer "Prime"

....dechlorinate the water, run your filter forever, in 2 weeks test the water at the pet store, ask for "a new tank water test"

...add 2 or 3 hardy fish (above) and in another 2 weeks, the tank probably will finish it's intial cycle and can be expanded

....add 2 or 3 new fish every 10 to 14 days

    .....always

.....always .....always observe the pet store fish first, to see if any of their fish are sick or dyeing....avoid any stores that have Ich in any tank...they usually recirculate water in all tanks that infects every single tank

....during the first 2 weeks also plant several live plants in your tank

    ...the plants serve 3 purposes:

    1) absorbs ammonia as food

    2) provides hiding and resting places for the fish (breaks up ther lines of sight and prevents territorial disputes

    3) add visual appaeal to the tank

...tanks are easy to keep... together with the water filter bacteria, live plants and regular water changes your tank will always be healthy and happy

  6. You have to cycle the tank

    http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.htm...

this goes in dept on cycling a tank

But the biggest part in choosing fish is your tank size...you failed to mention that.

  7. u can put them in whenever u get them :P

just put them all in at the same time it wont over well them becouse they will have others along with them :P

    good luck :P
