  2. the salmon swim from the salt water ocean up streams to reach the fresh water stream where they were spawned to then spawn themselves. they can travel as far as 2000 miles over several months. then after spawning if they are pacific salmon they will die shortly afterwards but atlantic salmon can return to the ocean and repeat this trip at least three more times.
