Which form of 'ser' should in use - Spanish?

1. When I was 10 I saw the movie 'IT'

Cuando era 10 vi' la pelicula 'IT'

1. When you were a child....

Cuando era una nina.....

Is that correct? Should I use 'era' or maybe fui/fue? Or something else!?

  1. No. You can't use "ser" in this sentence. To say when I was 10, you have to say "cuando tenía 10 años" (imperfect tense)

    If you say "cuando era diez" it would mean something like "when there were10 of me"

    when you were a child

    is right if you are taking to somone you dont know or is older if yo know them well and stuff and about your age you say

    cuando eras una nina

  3. 1- When you're referring to age, you don't use 'ser' in Spanish. You use 'tener' = have.

    When I was 10

    Cuando tenía 10 años, ....

    2- When you were a child ....

    Cuando tú eras niña.... (You don't need to use 'una' here)
