  1. The one that I worry about most is racism.  I am white british, but my partner is indian british.  Whilst I worry about the racism he receives, I really worry about our future children and the racism they will receive and how can I protect them.

I also believe that racism is the strongest oppression in the western world.

  2. I'm sorry I got lost in your eyes, what was the question?

  3. Personally racism, no matter what people say racism does still exist in stereotypes and negative images.

  4. I tried to answer your other question yesterday about being harrassed by guys because of your good looks, but they deleted it. I am going to answer it here and see if you get it, hope you don't mind: You really are a stunning s**y looking girl, but I think this is the whole problem. Guys are all about looks, it has always been that way. You must show them more than just your looks. Show them your "good girl" side, instead of your s**y side and you'll soon be able to filter out the decent guys from the rubbish. You don't want the rubbish do you? You want the guys who are decent surely? Wear longer skirts and cover the cleavage. Don't speak with a husky voice like an airline stuardess, told speak s**y words that usually sends all guys into a mad spin. Talk about Jesus or church, then you will get rid of the rubbish very fast. You won't see them for dust. There are three ways to deal with these gross e-mails that you are getting: 1. Preach whole sermons to them and Bible punch until they see the light or back off. 2. Write complete gibberish back, (just like a r****d), with extremely poor spelling and really corny jokes, make like you never read the papers or watch the news ever in your life, ("Who is Britney Spears?"). 3. Delete every e-mail that is disgusting to you and completely ignore them, sooner or later they will wonder if they have the correct e-mail address, (Why are you giving your e-mail address and cell number out anyway?).

  5. They all matter equally to me. I do not belong to an oppressed group (I am a white, middle-class, college-educated American male), so there is none that affect me personally.

But for number 2, I think sexism is by far the most prevalent. This is not to downplay the very serious problems of religious, racial, and class discrimination, but sexism is not only at least as common, it is often the most acceptable. I have had discussions with people here in the US who would never dare to deny that racism and religious intolerance are problems, but who denied that sexism even existed. Most people will sharply condemn racism, but sexism is widely acceptable. At least that has been what I have found.

    Good question. :)

  6. I'm sometimes discriminated against on the grounds of my appearance.  I've been turned down from (non-customer facing) jobs because I'm a bloke with long hair.  And because I'm ginger.

  7. Any form of harassment and bullying in the workplace

  8. Answer:  'Disabilities'.

    Sash.

  9. Definitely racism.

There's only one thing I hate more than racism, and that's the Germans.

  10. I have mental health problems so that stigma and discrimination is worse than any other for me . Mad is just beyond the pale.

hard to say which is the most prevalent as so many people are female and of a different race and class; black people adn women are more likely to be given a label of severe and enduring mental health - I just imagine there is a huge underprivileged stigmatised underclass in the world.

  11. For me the Topics that get me all Sparky and Sasi are Gender, Race, and Religion . Which is where you will find the bulk of my Answers.

    Great question!

  12. It's difficult to choose because any form of discrimination feels terrible.

But if you want me to choose one, I would say s*x because it is the one that affects me more often.

Unfortunately, I must say all of them exist in Western civilisations.

  13. none i have got very thick elephant skin and hope i have a brain that rejects all types of discrimination

  14. political and economic oppression by vile capitalist governments

rather be giggs than beckham lol

  15. That's the problem, when you say s*x you mean "gender", I actually mean s*x. Sexual repression (and oppression), despite any alleged liberation, is still huge.

Beside that, age. Age is becoming a big problem. This attempt to fence people in age rigid behavioral classes is really appalling. Once generational gap fell every 25-30 years, now from 2 to 5. "5 yo are considered "old" unless "outdated" by 20 yo, what, at a calm and coldblooded thought, is quite ludicrous. Forty yo are actually another planet, whereas 70 yo belong to the Ice age, and people start wondering why are they still around instead of dwell into the natural history museums like dinosaurs.

Both kind of oppressions which can easily  be combined together, belong to the more general trend to urge on people a model of what society claims they are supposed to do.

  16. All of them:  I cannot stand it when people call oriental peopel "yangyang", black people "******", German people "n**i or k***t" or whatever.  I also cannot stand it when anyone ridicules another one because of their religion.  Everyone has the right to choose what name their maker has, and none of us has the right to call another a name.

  17. good question, all of the above because i cant decide, cookie above should be called giggs cos hes so left wing.

  18. For me, matters involving s*x, and race are the two that I get really spent up about. I’ve dealt with both these issues the majority of my life. And I can’t wait to see the day when people start accepting one another for who they are (both race and s*x).

  19. s*x!

I see the opression of women everywhere and I hate it!

  20. General Stereotyping- so all really :P

  21. i know this sounds unfair but racism, as horrible as it is,

IMO has been largely got rid of..ageism is quite prevalent nowadays, and i know this is ironic as sexism has been eradicated mostly now and i just said that about racism, but i think feminism is closest to my heart, being female- i am just fascinated by feminist theory but don't hate men, just the patriarchy! but which exists most in western societies: ageism, definitely..people are terrified of getting old, despite the irony that we now act much younger in general, e.g a 40 year old now is not considered old and the average person no longer marries at 21. people should come to terms with the fact that one day we are all gonig to be old..assuming we live that long (yeah i'm a hypocrite as i fear ageing but still..it's an issue that needs to be addressed. you only have to consider the often horrendously neglectful treatment of the elderly in old people's home to understand what i'm on about, people are people, regardless of age )

p.s this is most notable, when you compare our treatment of the elderly compared to places like italy and china, where they are often respected and revered, and valued as one of the family

  22. The oppression of those who have no voice is the one I find most disturbing,in this country I think it is the oppression of the right to free speech and protest

  23. 1. Economic problems, of which military spending, the "war on drugs", and class-disguised as race (and, distantly, s*x) are the biggest problems

    2. I'm not sure. In all likelihood, class in the form of economic distribution--here in the West the average impoverished family is relatively deprived compared to the wealthiest quintile, but both are much, much better off than your typical African or Indian family, so i tend to think that, at least at this juncture, judicious use of fiscal and economic policy could reduce the effect of this gap. That doesn't mean gov't issue iPhones for africa, it means directing money to training programs and to infrastructure to improve incomes and material conditions
