Its not about the money I no I will have to contribute some money of my own. I am fine with that. It's about the cost of living rising. So I was just trying to figure out how much A is versus B so I know if A requires my out of pocket expenses of $200.00 a month or B require my out of pocket expense to be $100.00 a month. I wouldn't want to take a child that I may have to give back lets says because the out of pocket expense was $1,200.00 a month. Everyone knows gas is higher and food is higher in cost. I just wanted to prepare myself so I know what to expect as far as budget wise.

  1. this question sounds kinda messed up. Pays more? Arnt you supost to adopt a kid out of the goodness of your hart? Try getting a 2nd job if you want money--- not a kid.

  2. Please don't.

If you only care about money, you are doing the wrong thing.  Taking care of Foster Children requires MUCH more money than you will get paid.

If you expect to only use the money you get from the agency, your kids won't have birthday celebrations, christmas gifts, proms, camps, extra-curricular activites, new clothes, etc because the money is NOT ENOUGH.

You will damage the kids if you only intend on spending what you get.  Don't do that.

Foster care is about love but also about trying to let the children have a "normal life" that they may not have gotten from their bio-parents.  That requires $$

  3. You might get more if you take in a 'special needs' kid, I mean it might be a little more work for you but the monetary benefit is greater.

If you're REALLY looking to score some cash off of kids back's, just become an adoption facilitator.  That way you don't have to actually, you know, take care of the little monsters.

  4. Noo,

Foster parenting is not about the money. It is about the KIDS. The money that an agency "pays" a foster parent is meant to go to the child's upkeep and needs and is RARELY enough to do even that. If you are considering being a foster parent for the money - don't. If you want to do it because you have extra room in your heart and home to LOVE a child in need, then by all means go ahead but know that you will probably be spending some of your money to care for the child in your care if you want to do it right.

  5. uhm, I was going to say the same thing.... if you are getting anything over basic rate, the kid has major issues, you should not be doing this for the money... kids are kept on basic rate unless they have major behaviors...

good foster parents never make money...

  6. your right it's not about the money.  but to foster you get a base rate.  if you have a child that is more special needs then that child goes though a special agency and they pay more for more care and one on one care.  so you could get 250.00 a month for a child that is not special needs, or you could get 500.00 amonth for a child that has cerebral palsy.  hope this helps.  good luck on your journey
