It is more likely to be the aerial, is it outside? if so try raising it

also use an aerial with a large reflector

Eliminate mains noise caused by other appliances

Soldier all aerial connections

Amplifiers can amplify faults as well as signals

the problem might not be the box.... I had all sorts of problems with various freeview boxes and after a few different ones, I decided to check the aerial plug out and solder it up. It worked and no more probs , so it might be worth checking the connections in your aerial plug.
