  1. Both are good - depends what you are using it for and the space that you have.

  2. While an upright freezer will work just fine, a chest freezer will be slightly more efficient. Whenever you open the door in an upright, the cold air drops right out of the bottom of the door opening. With a chest freezer, you open it from the top. So, you lose less cold air.

  3. A chest freezer is certainly more efficient because all the contents stay cool while the lid is open, you can usually get more in it, and in these days of increasing energy costs less expensive to run.

When you open the door of an upright freezer, cold air being heavier escapes downwards, the chest warms up with the outside air and switches itself on again to cool down.

The only adavantage of an upright freezer is less floor space and ease of looking and retrieving things.

  4. I live on my own and an upright freezer is all I need so that is best for myself, people with familys would be better off with a chest freezer as they are larger.

  5. I'd say they are about equal. It just depends on what you prefer. I have a chest and you have to dig around to find what you want. I used to have an upright and it was easier to find things. I like the chest, though, because it's small and doesn't take up much space. Mostly, we use it for snacks and fries and stuff like that. I keep the meat and the foods we eat the most in the fridges freezer.

  6. chest. more storage, easier to mainitain, dont get so icy!

  7. Either will freeze food successfully for the maximum desirable length of time, but the upright takes up less floor-space and it's easier to get to the stuff you put in first.

  8. depends on how much you want to store, but for me ive got a small chest freezer and its fab, you can shove it all in and rummage around in there.

  9. Ive had a chest freezer for years, you can get far more in them, including big items like turkeys, large joints of meat etc, mine keeps all ok for a year or more. Ive also known quite a few people who bought upright freezers and regretted it, having to cram items into narrow shelves and drawers etc!! The star rating on freezers differ as to how long stuff can be frozen for!!

  10. Chest types hold more and are usually more energy efficient. Why? Gravity pulls down and a chest type can be packed full without anything falling out when you open the door. Likewise, cold which is heavy stays in the freezer when you open rather than spilling out like it would in an upright.  The bad......things tend to get buried on the bottom in a chest type and you have to pull out half the freezer to get to them.  Careful stacking and using racks and tubs really help with this. After that, pretty much a matter of choice.  An upright is probably more space efficient since it goes up rather than out.
