  1. I agree with Celli2....in 8 ball you have more choices and have to think about your next best shot and where to leave the cue ball for your next shot.  With 9 ball you don't have a choice...you just have to shoot the next lowest ball on the table.  Of course in both games it is important to try and set up your next shot or at least make your opponents shot more difficult.

  2. I would say 8 Ball because You gotta make Your shots..all the way down to the end. You can get lucky anytime in 9 Ball with a ride.

  3. 8 ball by far.  there are more balls on the table and you have to play for a leave incase you miss, or straigize and plan to tuck the opponent away without a shot.  In 9 ball any banger can do it.  I feel it is more luck, because you can bang a ball hard and hope that you get a nice (lucky) bounce/carom and all the sudden you just won becuase the 9 ball fell in.  And of course you will always get the "I meant to do that" yeah right

  4. 9 Ball takes more skill because you have to play shape for a certain ball.

In 8 ball you have plenty of options and usually if you mess up then you lose in that game but in 9 ball you still have a chance.

Last pool question I answered, my answer got deleted.  Lets hope it don't happen again.

  5. Depends on your skill level.  I would say if you are above average player, you are going to run more 9 ball racks then 8 ball racks.

  6. Neither is harder than the other. Each game has an emphasis on different skills. 9 ball is more of a shotmaker's game, while 8 ball is more of a strategic game. People tend to think 9 ball is harder because that's what they see on TV and that's what so-called "good" shooters play, but I guarantee that just as much skill is required to play top level 8 ball.

  7. I'm going to answer this just because this has always been a debate.

Both are equally challenging but in different ways.  Ask a 9 ball player to play a race to 7, 8 ball or an 8 ball player to play a race to 7, 9 ball.

Both players will be taken out of their comfort zones and find the other game just as challenging as the one they usually play.

I switch back and forth between games and it is still difficult to get the mindset focused on the new game.
