Question:

Which gas is truely the cheapest?

I don't know much about this, but I heard someone said that the super unleaded and premium unleaded were more effecient gases than the cheapest one. They said it burns slower (lasts longer). If that's so, would spending 10 or 20 cents more per gallon be worth it? Would you be saving any money there? Or do all the gases consume at the same speed?

  1. Higher octane gases burn slower, but not in the sense that you mean. Octane means gasoline's resistance to compression before it ignites, and makes no difference on your gas mileage. The cheapest gas is always going to be regular unleaded, no matter what people say.

  2. the more expensive gas is for high performance cars (like racing)

    thats all i know

  3. Deciding which grade of gas to buy in order to save money is almost irrelevant with the high gas prices of today.

I say this because most people really have a hard time affording gas at the current price so if you are cash strapped then the obvious answer is to pay for regular gas.

Now if you own a hybrid that runs on water or electricity. Paying for the premium gas wouldn't be all that bad because you would not be buying a lot of it. But doing so still would take away from the money staying in your pocket.

  4. Super and Premium unleaded end up damaging some stuff on your pipes and stuff, it is designed mostly for V8 sports cars and stuff like that

  5. NO - SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

The difference in Octane on measure resistance to Self ignition or auto-ignition from high compression (like turbo engine).

Octane rating does not measure anything else - not the energy content (not more potent), not cleaner, not better mpg,

    NOTHING

    Search down for this statement:

--- "It should be noted that octane rating does not"

--- "relate to the energy content of the fuel"

    Good Luck...

  6. I hear that they dont really make a difference

  7. The only situation this would happen (better mileage from using more expensive gas) is if you were running a car that requires premium gas on regular to begin with, and then switched to premium. You'd see a small gain there because the knock sensors don't have to work as hard. Every other case, it's not going to make a difference.
