Question:

Which gas should I be using in my Civic??

I have a 99 Civic that I've been putting cheap gas in. My dad drove it the other day and he said that he can hear the difference in the engine already. What is the best gas that I can put in it? Will my engine "start to sound better" if I put good gas in it? What's the difference in octane #'s? I also heard NOT to put premium in it or it will clog up and mess things up more. Any advise would be appreciated! thanks!

  1. what kind of civic is it? if it's an si then you should be putting 91+ octane in it due to the high compression ratio, to stop detonation... but if its a regular cx, dx, vx, etc... regular is fine for it.. if it makes noise, and doesn't run as strong then time for a fluid change and filter/plug/rotor/cap change

  2. put cheapest u can find..,,,its made 4 regular....use regular...maybe it needs a tune up,,,,ever have one????

  3. REGULAR FOR LIFE MY FRIEND

  4. the premium won't clog up, but you really won't notice a performance difference.  what your dad may be hearing is some cars do 'ping' more on lower octane.  you could try one of the OTC injector cleaners for that or running a tank of 91 octane to clean it out then go back to the 87.

  5. actually the cheapest gas is mixed with water

  6. Put in 87.  Thats what its built for and you will get no benefits by running a higher octane fuel.

As far as what gas station to use.  Different cars seem to prefer different stations.  My old Saturn got better mileage and ran smoother on BP gas than Mobil.  I've had other cars do the opposite and some that made no difference.  Sometimes its just that 1 station is bad for some reason.

If putting a higher octane gas in there improves the way it runs then you probably need a tune up.
