I know tornadoes can occur in all fifty states of North America, but which regions of land can a tornado NOT hit? High ground or where else, if such places exist, that is. Thanks.

  1. In general, the coastal areas of Washington State and Oregon rarely have tornadoes.  That isn't to say that they can never have a tornado.  They just don't often experience the particular convergence of meteorological and topographic features that lead to the formation of tornadoes.

  2. Phoenix, Arizona!! Flat desert bowl between rock-based hills and mountains. Heat index prevents anything higher than a dust-devil twister that maxes out at about 45-50 mph.

  3. There is no such place that exists.  Tornadoes can hit any place, mountain or not.  Tornadoes have been documented to occur in elevations as high as 10,000FT.

There is no place (except Antarctica and the North of the Arctic Circle) that is prone to tornadoes.
