It's a cute name actually and I have a friend with that name. So anyway, Lily is okay for me but a bit common compared to Maya. It's just up to u. Both are cute but I like Maya :)

I'm honestly not a huge fan of either name, although they are fine names. Neither one is a bad choice. I think of Maya as starting to sound a little bit tired because it was trendy about five or ten years ago. Lily sounds newer, but it's also becoming very trendy, so her name will sound tired in five or ten years. That's my observation.

However, a quick jaunt over to http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames shows that Maya's star is still rising, as are Mya, Myah, Amaya, and Mia. All of the variants are there, and decently highly ranked.

Lily is more popular as an individual name (27th in 2007), and there are more names that are similar: Lilly, Lillie, Lillian, Liliana, Lilianna, Lillianna, and Lilyana are all ranked. However, they are all much lower in popularity than any of the Maya variants.

I think if I had to pick one I like more, I would probably go with Lily, just because I think it sounds more current. Maya does have Maya Angelou as a namesake, so again, it's not a bad choice at all!

Maya is not only less popular (a huge plus), but is also a stronger name.  It's a name that not only connotes beauty (as does Lily), but also inner-strength... the attributes that every parent wants for their little girl.  Go for Maya!
