Neither is more friendlier than than the other, they are both the same.  If they are from the same breeder, you will find that they should have the same temperament, and both will be just as friendly. Although the males do have a more laid back attitude, you will find the females are a little more protective of their territory, that is the nature of the female Syrian. The most important issue in finding a nice friendly one, is 'always' make sure you can handle them in the pet shop before you buy.

My brother got a boy and he was the sweetest nicest hamster i had ever seen, the only girl hamster i have had was a dwarf and she was the meanest i have ever seen. Get a boy! They are great!

Well if you ask me I would say girls because I think they are friendly and that they are not as aggeresive as the boy hamster.
