  1. The longest drive in an major championship is still Craig Wood's drive at the 5th in St Andrews in 1933 Open Championship. It was 430 yards from the tee into the left hand bunker of the "Spectacles" in the rise in front of the green. The Old Course was not watered much in those days (the 'links grass' turned brown but did not die).


  2. The longest recorded terrestrial golf drive is 515 yards (471 meters), and was set by golf pro Mike Austin in 1974.

    He used a Wilson persimmon driver and a Titleist 100 ball.
