  1. i use a 3 wood...i'm just not comfortable with the 3 iron.

  2. the 3W should blast way past your 3iron...........also, look at a 16-20 degree hybrid...I have the Callaway Heavenwood 3H that I use a lot in a 2-3 Iron slot

  3. I like hitting a 3iron because of control, but 3wood will be longer just harder to hit.  I just got a 20* hybrid and its between a 3 iron and a 3 wood in distance but easier to hit than both of them.

  4. I don't carry a 3-wood anymore.  I use a #3 Adams hybrid.  Shorter shaft makes it easier for me to hit the ball straight compared to a 3-wood.  I might sacrifice a little distance, but I'd take the accuracy any day.

  5. I tend to use a 3 iron because I find I have similar distance but much more control. I don't hit fairway woods very welI so I  think it mainly depends on how you hit the club. A three wood in theory should give you more distance, but if you don't hit it well, go with a club that you are more confident in.

  6. Both of those clubs are rather difficult to hit for most people.  I've been playing 35 years and don't even carry a three iron in my bag.  The vast majority of golfers, probably you included, should get one or two so called "hybrids".  These clubs are a cross between a fairway wood/metal and a long iron.  Until you get one of those you'll probably hit better shots using a higher lofted club than the three wood or three iron.  Try a five wood, seven wood, five iron or six iron.

  7. use whatever club gets you closiest to the hold and i hit a 3 wood 230-250 and a 3 iron like 210 so the wood goes a lot longer

  8. The 7-iron without question is your best second shot club....it is true to the test in every instance.

  9. You may wish to try a rescue/utility club. This way you can get the benefits of an iron in a wood.

  10. if you have a solid swing and make solid contact with teh ball the 3 wood will absolutely go further....the reason people dont is because either they cant hit a 3 wood or they cant hit a 3 iron either or.... 3 woods are usually used on long par 5s

  11. It depends how far the hole is/ is it a par 4 or 5. Generally for beginners a 3 wood will be easier to hit as it has a much larger surface area. 3 woods will go further than a 3 iron.

  12. If you put the exact same swing (club head speed) on both clubs, a 3 wood will travel further than a 3 iron.  It's hard to say how much further because it depends on a lot of variables (club head speed, launch angle, RPM on the golf ball as it comes off the club head, etc.).

If you are a new golfer, the 3 wood tends to be a little easier to hit due to it's increased size.  Good luck.
