Safer now with a .44 mag at my side, my second priority kicks in. Which handheld gps unit will get me from point "a" to point "b" the most efficiently and cost effectively in the rocky mountain wilderness? I most likely will never have a need of street maps or restaraunt locations in a gps, so i don't really want to waste any extra coin ono features i simply won't use. Simple operation, cost effectiveness, and signal acquisition are my main interests

  1. Since you just want something that will get you point to point without any maps, you can go with a Garmin eTrex H.  Monochrome screen, no maps.  Lets you set waypoints and record tracks, and go to waypoints.  It costs about $80.  Just make sure you get the eTrex H, not the regular eTrex.  The eTrex has poor reception in challenging environments (trees, buildings, canyons).  The eTrex H has an improved receiver that is more sensitive.
