I'm thinking of coming over to Victoria during the season to watch the crows play. (ok, I guess I'll attract some smart **** comments)

Which would be the best venue for me to take my young daughter, my sister & me?

Thanks, yes this is a serious question.

  1. only one possible ground in the metro area, the MCG.

Telstra has a very sharp climb to get to most seats, there are few lifts or escalators (except for staff!)and if you're sitting close enough to see the action you feel as if you're about to fall out of your seat. As well, a lot of Telstra is a fair hike from the railway station, there is parking underneath but you have to wait a long time, and as you may have heard, we occasionally have rain in Melbourne, and the crowds over the rail bridge are massive, so everyone gets wet. There are trams of course, but they make sardine cans look like the nullabor.

The MCG has lots of parking in its surrounds, is on several tram routes and bus lines, and is an easy trot down from Jolimont station through parkland, or up from Richmond also through the park.Everyone not actually behind a pillar - maybe 50 seats in 100,000 - gets a good view of the action at the G. and in fact if you sit ringside you may end up with a footballer in your lap - my preference being Adam McPhee - and the crowd seating itself is more mixed in allegiance than at Telstra, and thus friendlier.

From a female point of view anyway, see the MCG.

  2. I'LL start by saying i think the G is an awesome ground and my sentimental favourite, but if your coming over to watch a crows game then id look at telstra dome, reason being its smaller and with the interstate teams not having as much support here in Melbourne if you go to the G it can sometimes resemble a ghost town just because of its size and it seems to swallow up small crowds (30,000 to 40,000) but at telstra dome 35,000 to 40,000 will still give great atmosphere. also if you come in winter the dome offers cover from the elements.

note: if you are just coming to watch to Vic sides like Carlton/collingwood  essendon/collingwood etc then check out the G because nothing beats it when there is 80,000 + fans cheering their teams.

  3. Oh yeah Ozzy ... you'll get some smart ** *** answers coz I've retired from Cricket!

Kardinia Park is by far the best place to watch footy ... well the facilties are shite, the parking is c**p, the viewing is mediocre, there's not much cover ... but you can always watch the Cats there and that's all that counts!!

A few of us were thinking of doing the Maggies and Cats - a real game ... wanna join us??!!

  4. The best ground is definitely the MCG.  The atmosphere is fantastic and you pretty much get a good view regardless of where you sit.

Hope you get a chance to come down to Melbourne to experience the footy (just make sure you bring lots of winter clothes coz it gets very cold!!)

  5. The MCG has it.

    But!

I just can't watch mi footy if Port and Collingwood play.

Ex S.A now in Melb watching my favourite teams fight it out, It's too hard.

  6. nothing beats the mcg you will never forget it once you have been there !

  7. the mcg for the experience, but i believe telstra dome is better for afl games

  8. the MCG. you don't realise how good the atmosphere really is until you've been there!! it's fantastic.

    P.S  GO PIES!!!!! :)

  9. I love the MCG.  Great Venue, easy access with public transport and a magnificent stadium, every seat in the house is good.

  10. when it raining the dome

    when its not MCG

ill be going with mates to crows v pies

    as we do most times

    im in adelaide my self

  11. ya cant beat the MCG

  12. I'd say MCG because hmm I don't know how to put it in words. Its just the MCG! When you back back to Adelaide and say 'I've been to the Telstra Dome' is not the same as 'I've been to the MCG' If you know what I mean. Although I like the Telstra Dome as I think it's very easy to get too by car (although I guess it's different because we're Medallion Club members and get an easy underground park.) but just as easy to get to by train, just a short walk over a bridge from Southern Cross Station (Spencer Street)

The MCG is a b***h to get to by car, but you can get the train to Flinders Street and take a nice walk along the river to MCG, there's a nice park halfway for your young daughter. Or you could get the tram from the station.

BUT once your in the stadium at the MCG all we be forgotten about. It's a beautiful stadium especially if you're at a Collingwood/Essendon game the atmosphere is grouse

  13. I haven't been to the MCG since the renovations and I know its the home of football but I just love Telstra Dome. Its easy to get to, easy to get something to eat and you have a great view wherever you sit.

I took a group of U/14 and U/16 players from Canberra a few years ago and they all preferred the Dome.
