Which group's belief is that earth sits on top of a turtle?

I don't know what group that is, but it DOES remind me of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.  "See the turtle of enormous girth, on his shell he holds the earth."  I don't know if he got that from a group that really believes that and incorporated it into his novels, but that's what I think of.    The Turtle was one of the guardians of the beams.  I know this doesn't help nor does it answer your question, but I figured i'd note that that's where I first ever heard of something like that.
