Hi, i have been taking accustic guitar lessons for a little while now, and my parents said they would buy me a new guitar. I was just wondering what brand names or types of accustic guitars are good. thanks!

  1. Rather than looking for a particular brand (my first guitar was an Aria) it's better to play a few and find one that feels and sounds good to you instead.

Being a newbie you might want to look for one that has a fairly low action (the distance between the strings and the fretboard) and a narrow neck to allow you to stretch around for those pesky bar chords a bit more easily.

I learned on a spanish acoustic for about 2 years before I bought my first acoustic/electric.  These days I have a Washburn Woodstock which has to be the best guitar I've ever owned!!

  2. Is not all about the brand, sure it differs on quality and style, but the best thing you could do is go to the music store and try them out, see which one you like better.

  3. I agree, that it is not all about brand names.  The name is somewhat important though.  Obviously, some are just going to be better built then others.  (Different woods and styles)  Guitars made in the US are often higher valued then guitars made outside the US - being a difference between a Gibson and a Epiphone... same company, but made in different locations.  Anyway, the best thing would be to go to a local music store and play some guitars, and figure out which you like best/ what feels the best in your hand.  I suggest looking at a Yamaha or Washburn, if you are going on a budget somewhat - Martin or Taylor if you want to get expensive. ;)  Again, its all about what guitar is best for YOU. Good luck!
