I play an acoustic guitar, and i mostly play christian music. My guitar is pretty old and the strings look a bit rusted. Any suggestions? I have heard that Ernie Ball is a good set. Oh, one more question. Should i get the light, medium, or heavy set?

  1. Get the light strings. Go for quality. Flatwound is easier on the fingertips.

  2. get medium martins

  3. If it's old, then take it to a music store and have them help you with strings.  New high tension strings can be death to an old guitar, especially one that hasn't been kept in the right environment.

The only reason for anything heavier than light strings is if you are performing on stage and need the added sound from heavier strings.

If you don't have one already... BUY a tuner when you have the new strings put on.. and have them SHOW YOU how to put your own strings on in the future... it's not rocket science and every guitarist should be able to change their own strings.

  4. D'Adaggio.

  5. I use and recommend Elixir Nanoweb light gauge strings.  They're more expensive than other strings (because they're coated) but they last a lot longer and eliminate finger squeak.
