Definitely the Taurus. I tend to stay away from S&W semi-autos.

My friend also owns a 24/7 5" 9mm and it shoots like a dream.

Personally, I'd go with the Taurus as I have had bad experiences with S&W semi-autos (mainly the Sigma series). S&W does make remarkable revolvers though.

Your first question should be what do i plan on doing with this gun.  Will you be using it as a concealed carry or just punching paper.  

My vote goes for the S&W .40. (Per i own one) It was the 2007 handgun of the year.  It also comes with 3 different interchangeable handgrips whereas the others do not.  Read reviews, idoubt you will find anybody that dislikes it

Ok, forget everything else you read here. This is the real review. I recently bought a 24/7 Pro .40 from Academy in San Antonio, Texas. I paid 379.00. The gun came with two 15 round mags. The first thing i noticed when loading the clips is the fact that only 14 rounds would work in the clip. the 15th round would go into the clip, but there was no free play for the rounds to compress down enough to allow the slide to function properly. the next let down was the Heine sights that were improperly installed. I could not hit paper at 10 yards. The last straw was 3 in a row failure to feed using quality ammunition . I plan on pawning this POS and picking up a Glock 31 or an XD1
