  1. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/Articl... dont get dwarfs i had one and i was afraid to get near it.

  2. Teddy bear hamsters are solitary and may kill each other when in pairs.  If you want two hamsters get dwarfs from the same litter.

  3. i think syrain hamsters are good but if your geting i couple i would get to dwarf hamsters

  4. if you want to get two them get a couple of young, same s*x dwarves.

Dwarf hamsters are social, unlike syrians who will kill each other if left in the same cage(the ones at petsmart are almost constantly fighting) just make sure they are the same s*x otherwise you wind up with lots and lots of babies.(dwarf breeds include the winter white, cambell, and robo)The cool thing about winter white hamsters is that during the summer they're jet black but if you let them experience natural lighting in the winter they can turn white!

However if you don't mind buying seperate cages a syrian  might be better as they are often calmer and enjoy being held more then dwarves(I have have very friendly dwarves, it depends on how much you socialize them)

Syrian breeds include the honey bear, black, longhaired,. shorthaired, and panda.

These are only the breeds i remember off hand there may be more.

Please also remember to NEVER use pine or cedar bedding, if you want wood use aspen. Pine and cedar contains oils that over time cause respitory problems in small animals.

  5. I have a two year old dwarf hamster I call Sneaker, dwarf hamsters make excellent pets and are quite social, they also come in many different colors, I would HIGHLY suggest dwarf but Teddy bear hamsters are also quite good pets also, dwarf hamsters are much more social though so if you want two hamsters get a dwarf, NEVER Syrian, Syrians are strictly NOT beginners type! Please keep in mind when choosing a hamster that hamsters contrary to what people say usually live 3-4 years and NOT two, I know this from experience, hamsters also should receive regular check ups from the vet and should be brought straight away when sick. When you are choosing a hamster you should check the coat and feel everything to be sure it is OK, also watch for if a hamster is doing back flips or looking straight up then falling, these are not cute tricks, if a hamster is doing either of these things it is a neurological problem caused by careless breeding passed down through genes, they are called flipping and star gazing, a hamster with these problems should never be breed, please note that these problems do not usually occur until about 4 months of age.

  6. Well, there really is no best and worst. You should chose the hamter's that you like most and suit you and that have a good personality.
