  1. You decide! I personally prefer Syrian though.

    Syrian Hamster:

Pros - easier to handle, often cheaper to buy than dwarfs, more varieties, not as fast, bite much less often, long haired hamsters are really fuzzy!

Cons - costlier, slightly less cuter than russians (in my opinion), live by  themselves. Bites may hurt a lot and/or bleed!

    Russian Hamster:

Pros - live longer, can live with more than one, lesser cost, slighty more cuter (in my opinion), bites don't hurt as much.

Cons - Quicker, more likely to escape, bite more often, more expensive.

  2. russians are smaller but syrains are better for first time owners. they are active buy not as fast as the russians.

  3. The russians are but you have to get a pair of them...plus the syrian hamsters are only a little more bigger.

Dwarfs have the tendency to bite and they are way faster and harder to tame. I like syrians more because they are nicer, easier to train, do not need another friend.

If this is your first hamster then a lot of people do not suggest dwarfs as a first pet hamster.

    Russians around 8cm

    Syrian 10-15 cm

T his breed of hamsters goes by other denotations which often, directly or indirectly, refers to the colour of the fur. The Syrian hamster is the most popular breed of hamsters for pet purposes. The size of a grown animal is 10 to 15 centimeters. They must absolutely be kept separated singly, except at mating. They become about three years of age.

T his breed of hamsters show many similarities to Campbells Russian dwarf hamster. Its size is in its grown form 5 to 8 centimeters. A number of colours have been bred, but in the winter this hamster changes fur and becomes white. This hamster is usually not liable to mating during this season. By way of exception may these hamsters be accustomed to be included in groups, but these groups may not include other breeds of hamsters.

  4. I'm a first time owner and I assure you that when I handle my Russian Dwarf Hamsters. I never gotten bit. Not even once. Maybe nibbled on. They are alot different than Syrian Hamsters cause syrians are 4-8 inches big and dwarfs are 1-4 inches. syrians are solitary so no matter what. They will fight with their cagemate to the death. It is only one per cage with them. But dwarf hamsters on the other hand aren't solitary. They can live with up to 5 of dwarf hamsters in a single cage. They may playfight each other for territory or to see whos dominance over each other. But i love my 5 dwarf hamsters and they are good for me. If you want to get a syrian....go right ahead but be aware.

  5. Russian hamsters are the smallest but they also live the least longest

i have a syrian they are really nice but big as far as a hamster goes!

Russian hamsters are sweat but hard to hold because they jump about alot.

My hamster is not very well at the moment.

But so far i have had 4 syrian and i would recommend syrians but they are alot bigger then Russians so....

if its the size go for Russian.

    Have fun with your hamster!
