there are 5 cards down : 3 threes( spades, hearts, clubs) , 1 two of spades , 1 ten of diamonds.

now one hand is ace of clubs and queen of hearts. and the other hand is ace of diamonds and jack of spades.

is it a split pot because it is a three of a kind with an ace high for both hands? or the first player wins because he has the bigger hand ?

  1. The AQ wins. Even though both players have an A kicker, it is a 5 card game. So the Q and J will play as the fifth card. Since the Q is a higher rank, the AQ wins.

  2. AQ wins because it leads to the best hand with 5 cards.

    333AQ vs 333AJ

If the card on the board was a King instead of a Ten then it would have been a split pot because both players would then have 333AK as the best hand.

  3. 3-3-3-A-Q

    Beats

    3-3-3-A-J

No split pot on this one.

Now, if the first hand had A-8 and the second had A-7, the pot would be split, as they'd both have 3-3-3-A-10

    Hope that helps!
