About 6 months ago I repartitioned my two hard rives so that I can run 2 operating systems. I installed fedora core 8 first. Then about a month later windows. When I installed windows, it covered my grub boot. So now I want to Install debian in fedora cores place but i cant remember which hard drive I installed it on. Is there a way to find out which hard drive windows xp is on so I can install Debian on the other on?

  1. get a disk partioning program

then you shouldbe able to see

and by theway you should of installed windows 1st

and then fedora would of installed wthin windows so you boot from

the from when the computer starts

  2. If you're running XP, open a command window and run 'diskpart' to select and view and installed disks and their partition configurations.  You should be able to tell from the partition or filesystem type listed which o/s the partition "belongs to."  For example, the following command sequence lists the partition info for the first partition on the first hard drive:

    diskpart

    select disk 0

    select part 0

    detail part

  3. Go to Disk management

Right click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management

youll see a list of disks and partitions.

The one Windows is on is most likely formated in NTFS.  The other one is probably formatted in the Linux filesystem.

Make note of both partition sizes, when you install your new OS, check the size of the available partitions.  Hopefully you didnt chop the drive directly in half

Actually I think when you go to isntall the new OS it will tell you what your partitions are currently formatted as
