My crappy hitachi drive decided to bust after just over 2 years, so it look like I need a new one. I have seen 2 I like, but can't decide. The samsung has more storage, but the Western Digital is a good name for hard drives and is slightly cheaper, so any ideas?

  1. I'd suggest WD over Samsung. Just as soon as people finally begin to trust this maker, it seems they have to release a ghastly line. The latest 320GB per platter drives are just that, with pretty high RMA rates and obnoxious incompatibilities with many Nvidia chipsets. Oh, and my older Samsung came with a installation booklet riddled with spelling errors! Seagate's having trouble too with the new 320GB model- I think Western Digital is the only one who has figured out how to cram 320GB in one platter without making an unreliable drive! I suggest you see if the 640GB two-platter WD isn't all that much more money. It should be faster and quieter, too.

  2. maybe samsung,,.
