  1. You buy a motherboard that supports the cpu and you buy ram that the motherboard supports.  


  2. If I was building one I'd go for any of the mid-range Asus or Gigabyte boards - P35 or the new P45 chipset seems to be the way to go. Checkout some of these asus boards: http://au.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2...

    If you're not getting a graphics card you'll need a board with integrated graphics.

    Try to google a review of the board before buying it.

    Any ddr2 ram should be good as long as its compatible with your m/board - go 2gb if your using xp and maybe a bit more for vista.
