  1. happiness lasts longer.joy is in spurts

  2. I think that they have equally deep meanings. I feel like joy is something that you feel right now, all of a sudden and happiness is a longer term feeling. Like you have been feeling happy for the past couple of hours.

  3. Joy.

  4. They are both the same thing one is a little more emotional due to a higher value in question.  But this emotion just like all emotions, are a response to seeing, feeling ones' values moving towards you, or away from you if it is anger or sadness. The hierarchy of values makes the emotion more or less intense.

  5. joy. joy can be expressed in any emotional state.  happiness is just one of those emotions.

  6. One usually speaks of 'joy of Christmas' which only lasts for a short while. One mentions about 'Happiness' of a long marriage but not 'joy'--so the former has a deeper meaning. We usually use the words 'fun, joy and laughter' to describe a party or a picnic which lasts for a few hours. So the differences, i suppose are duration and intensity combined with liveliness.

  7. Think of happiness as the climate and joy as the weather of a person. Happiness is the over all evaluation one makes about ones life. It is the long-term over all feeling expressed by a person towards life. A happy person will on average have a lot more joyful days. But just like it can rain in California so can a happy person experience some horrible days. A unhappy person can have joyful moments but generally the weather matches the climate. So happiness has the deeper meaning since it deals with a larger time frame.

  8. Happiness comes and goes, depending on our moods and what circumstance we happen to be in at the time.

Joy, as we are taught, is everlasting, it's something one has with the Lord, who can provide joy in any given situation.

  9. happiness sounds like something deeper, more like long-lasting or more meaningful.

joy is more of a short moment of happiness.

  10. Interesting question Val. To me, happiness is a longer term emotion [for and by me experienced] compared to joy.  My emotion of joy is shortlived on most things.  For instance, today my daughter was interviewed for a job I'd prayed she would get and be successful in.  She was offered the job and I was joyful.  The elevated joyful mood subsided a few hours later dealing with other things, and then happiness set in after thinking about the outfits/clothing she would need for the job I was joyful about. LOL. Catch my drift? LOL.

  11. You can be happy over joy but joy brings true happiness!

  12. joy

  13. I think happiness has the slightly deeper meaning because to me, joy sounds good but is maybe more short lived than happiness, i cant explain why i feel this to be true, but i would prefer happiness...

  14. happiness lasts much longer, joy comes and goes.

  15. JOY:))
