Kelly, good luck finding stats to prove this.  I don't think you can because are you asking based on worldwide information or based on hurricanes or Earthquakes in your country?

Earthquakes.  Hurricanes mostly happen in here in the US and we are prepared.  Except the loosers in New Orleans.

Honestly I don't know; having lived in both CA and FL I am more comfortable with hurricanes because you get several days warning and there are things you can do to stay safe; with earthquakes you have no warning nothing to do if you had warning and the effects are far more devastating. I was near the epicenter of the '71 Sylmar quake and stood in the doorway of my friend's apt on the ground level and watched the lawn roll like the ocean. Between the ground moving and the freight train sound, earthquakes are far more traumatic. I went through a Cat 4 hurricane in a trailer a few years ago, and still earthquakes are far scarier.

A lot of hurricanes occur in the ocean but when an earthquake occurs, it's on land.
