  1. Recoil energy from most to least:

    158gr .357 Mag

    230gr .45ACP

    180gr .40 S&W

    115gr 9mm

The list will also work on felt recoil from 4" barrel service sized handguns of similar weight

  2. I say the .357 or the .45

  3. There are other factors that you have to know:

    Weight of gun?

    Weight of load?

    Length of barrel?

    Amount of powder?

Are they all the same manufacture?

    ETC.

  4. i have shot all of these and in order from most recoil to less its

    357mag

    45acp

    40sw

    9mm

    38spcl

I have shot all of these out of pistols with 4" barrels.

  5. mage is correct... of course if you have a 9 pound 45 carbine it is going to kick less than a 9mm but between comparable guns mage has it right and to be frank there is quite a bit of difference between them.

  6. Everything depends on the actual weight of the gun being fired but with all things being fairly equal the .357 will have more recoil.

  7. It is hard to say,The first time I shot a Glock 33 357Sig  it almost flew out of my hand.It is really hard to say it all depends on what kind of gun it is.

  8. I would say the .357 magnum, but it will sure do a good job in any self defense situation.

  9. The 45, however the 357 Magnum is a better and best man stopper for self-defense purposes.*

  10. The 45

  11. Which handgun (weight, method of operation, grips, Ported or not?)?  What loading (bullet weight, powder charge, velocity)?  .357 Sig or .357 Mag?  .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Schofield or .45 GAP?  9x17, 9x18, 9x19 or 9x21?
