  1. We looked into this a couple of years ago and found halogen were much cheaper.  However, it can be difficult to find replacement bulbs for the heater, they tend to burn out quite frequently and a build-up of dust can reduce efficiency and then be difficult to clean off without damaging the heater.  It would be possible to get replacement bulbs by buying new heaters but this would not be environmentally friendly.  Most of the time we run heaters with one bulb out of action and it still keeps the place warm.  We have no other kind of heating.  We used to use oil-filled radiators but they were less efficient.

  2. I guess it all depends, do want heat or do you want low operating cost?

The halogen ones do use forced air but the pressure is very low so it is primarily a radiant heater in reality.

The oil heater is pure radiant.

To make any heater efficient and functional you first need a powerful heat source and next you need to be able to get the heated air into the room...both Halogen and Oil filled do a fair job of it but the first thing heat does is...rise to the ceiling, that is why it is important to be able to mix the air as part of the process.

A good forced air ceramic or disk heater is the better choice because they are able to heat more air with much less energy.

I came across this one called the HOT BLAST and now own two of them and they are impressive, see for yourself at:

  3. i have gas heat and i dont want to fill it up at 300.00 so i bought heaters, these are little heaters they have 2 heat settings and a fan setting they have served me well, i have a big size home and i get away with only 3 of these. if you are looking for a heater i would suggest that one, if you want a pic of then email me so i can send you one, i dont remember the name, sorry.   candtstandard@yahoo.com

  4. halogen is radiant heat so you need to be in front of it oil rads are thermal and work better as back ground heat if you stood in front of halogen you would feel warmer that if you stood in front of the oil filled, which are far more robust
