I am trying to decide what type of motorcycle helmet to get. A half helmet or a full face helmet. What are the pros and cons of each helmet? Please answer if you have personal experience.

  1. The helmet I like best is one that is NOT on my head.

  2. also of it depends on the type of bike you ride .  sport bike windshields don't offer any protection from sand  bug and stuff being kicked up by cars  full face is the way to go. on a big cruiser the windshield protects the rider alot and you don't have to wear a full face for protection from stuff .......  either way  the full face offers more protection in a crash

  3. Full face .

There is no such thing as being too safe when it comes to motorcycles .

  4. alway full face....pisspots dont protect your jaw...you dont really want that snapped off in a crash do you....

  5. used both and each have their own safety. Of course a full face offers more accident protection BUT it also limits site and sound, which could cause the accident.

  6. Full face gives you more prottection where you need it.

The Hurt report (to date, the only study of motorcycle accidents done in the states) looked at the frequency and location of strikes to the helmet during accidents.  The area that had the highest percentage of hits (and by a large amount, I want to say 35-40%) was the chin bar.

Any helmet's better than no helmet, but full-face is really the way to go.

  7. Ok, understand it's a decision YOU have to make, I'll not tell you what I wear, But what the pro's and con's are.

Full Face Solid: best protection, protects whole head and with chin bar also protects face pretty much, also most quiet (Noise). Con's are some people feel confined and lack of ventilation (Hotter)

Full Face lift up front: same as above but there's a chance the flip up part could break off on impact and not protect face/nose. Also noisier. Does allow flip up at lites, etc for ventilation.

3/4 face: Same as full face except does not protect face since it has no chin bar, does allow more air, also is noisiery then above. Faster on/off.

1/2 helmet: Min required by law. Protects Skull (Min) te reduce brain dead chances. does not normally Protects face and ears, nose etc. It allows the most air, also allows most noise. Normally cant use most headsets (Communication) with these versions.

Basically, as you trade safety, you gain freedom in the wind , noise and view. But IF you get into an accident, the odds of you being killed drastically disfigured goes way up.

    Hope This helped.......
